Dodge Challenger 392 SRT 8
392 ci SRT HEMI V8 Engine
Powerful. Practical. Efficient. The Challenger versatile engine lineup doesn’t just uphold its legendary reputation – it takes it to an entirely new level.
The 392 HEMI is back, in the Challenger 392 SRT8® . Its all-new 392 ci SRT HEMI V8 engine produces a staggering 73.4 horsepower-per-liter – the highest naturally aspirated specific-output engine ever offered by Dodge (even more than the fabled 1960s and 1970s 426 HEMI engine 60.86 hp-per-liter rating).
The 392 ci SRT HEMI cranks out 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque thanks to high-flow cylinder heads, SRT specific intake, exhaust manifolds and beefed-up valves that respond to a performance-ground camshaft. It's only fitting that the reinforced block under the hood of the Challenger SRT8 is clad in HEMI Orange from the original paint code.
The 392 ci SRT HEMI mated to a five-speed automatic comes with Fuel Saver Technology for greater efficiency[1]while at cruising speeds. Its aluminum cylinder heads are milled with hemispherical combustion chambers that benefit airflow and, subsequently, horsepower and torque. The new 392 ci SRT HEMI also features variable valve timing for improved torque. When equipped with Fuel Saver Technology, the computer-controlled variables add up to improved mileage, even with all of that power available when needed.
5.7L HEMI Engine
Powerful and efficient, the 5.7L HEMI utilizes Fuel Saver Technology and variable valve timing for staggering performance.
The 5.7L HEMI with standard six-speed manual transmission has an awe-inspiring 410 lb-ft of torque on tap.
The 5.7L HEMI V8 delivers:
- Variable cam timing, bringing more power and optimal performance
- Greater efficiency[1] when equipped with Fuel Saver Technology
- Dual ignition (two spark plugs per cylinder) to increase peak power and torque
3.6L V6 Engine
Better power, better fuel economy[1], better drive.
Let your inner racer thrive with the all-new Pentastar® 3.6L V6 engine that delivers maximum durability with minimum scheduled maintenance. Engineers completely retooled and delivered a whopping 20-percent improvement in horsepower and 12-percent bump in torque over the previous V6. The engine torque exceeds 90-percent of peak torque from 1,600 to 6,400 rpm for a smooth, responsive driving experience. All this, and it’s still able to deliver a quieter driving experience and improved fuel economy.
Some of the 3.6L key features and improvements:
- Dual overhead camshafts
- Four valves per cylinder & silent chain valvetrain
- Aluminum block and cylinder heads
- Variable valve timing (cam phasing)
- Reduced-mass pistons with floating wrist pins
- Advanced sequential port fuel injection
- Electronic throttle control with integrated cruise control
- Fully isolated composite camshaft covers
- Structural aluminum oil pan
- Lightweight integrated header manifolds
- Coil-on-plug ignition
Transmissions
The Challenger R/T and 392 SRT8® standard Tremec™ six-speed manual transmission features a twin-disc, high-performance clutch from ZF-Sach that helps to ensure exceptional engagement, comfort, low driver pedal effort and optimized spinning inertia. You'll also find:
- Ten percent wider gears and larger bearings for higher torque capacity
- Modified shifter rails for improved shiftability and durability
- A less restrictive, high performance exhaust with a unique sporty exhaust note
Hill Start Assist allows the driver time to transition from brake to throttle to achieve a smooth launch on a grade. The system will hold brake pressure for about 2 seconds upon the driver's release of the brake pedal. The system decreases brake pressure in response to increasing throttle to provide a smooth launch.
With your hand grasped on thepistol grip shifter and your foot to the floor, you're ready to connect with the power.
